Two physicists stretch their wings with Rubicon grant
NWO has awarded two Rubicon grants to physicists who want a taste of research abroad: A. Bakulin and L. Huijse.
Bakulin will spend 16 months in Cambridge investigating plastic electronics. Electronic devices made from plastic are making serious inroads in our everyday lives. But how do electrons hop from one molecule to the next to make plastic conductive? Bakulin will use laser light to study how the electrons hop.
Huijse is going to Harvard for two years, where she will investigate some unusual properties of materials, such as conducting electricity without resistance or possessing a large number of low energy states. She will even use black holes to gain a better understanding of these poorly understood phenomena.
