FOM-Nikhef and Rijnhuizen at European Researchers' Night
European top research Nikhef and Rijnhuizen in Pathé Cinema
The Geneva particle accelerator, fusion as possible solution for the energy problem, gazing at the stars with the world's largest radio telescopes and heart interventions with biologically degradable stents. These are the topics of BEST (Being a European Scientist Today), an event organised by the Erasmus Medical Center during the European Researchers' Night on Friday 24 September. The event is held at the Pathé Schouwburgplein cinema in Rotterdam. Live webcasts from top research institutes bring science from all over Europe to the public. Dutch experts from FOM Institute for Subatomic Physics Nikhef, FOM Institute for Plasma Physics Rijnhuizen and other institutes present each item.
Scientific research is an international endeavour. The Erasmus MC, FOM-Nikhef, and Rijnhuizen have important positions in their fields, based both on individual achievements and on cooperation between people and organisations. This means that scientific research offers a wonderful opportunity for an international caree. Scientists from all over the world work in Dutch research centers and Dutch scientists, for their part, participate in research the world over.
On Friday September 24, BEST brings European top research to the heart of Rotterdam. The programme starts at 17.00 with the latest news from CERN in Geneva. At 22.00, a live connection with Culham, UK, showcases current work at the record holder in produced fusion power, the JET tokamak. The programme ends at 00.30 on the South Pole, where an observatory tracks neutrinos impacting the earth from outer space.
