AMOLF group leader Jaime Gómez Rivas receives prestigious ERC Starting Grant
Gómez Rivas will use this grant of 1.5 million euro to consolidate his research on active plasmonics at THz frequencies. This research is based on semiconductor particles or antennas that support localized surface plasmon polariton resonances. These resonances originate from the oscillation of the electrons and holes present in the semiconductor driven by the THz field. By optical excitation of electrons and holes, the resonances can be switched in ultrafast time scales. This research will lead to novel THz devices such as modulators and sensors.
