Submitting a new application

You can submit a new application via Flamingo or directly via the FOM website.

  • To submit a new application click the button Applications. The window Overview grant applications will open.
  • Then click on the button New application. The window New application will open.
  • Then click on the button To grant guide. In the next window you will see a list of all grants for which applications can be submitted electronically to FOM. This page can also be reached directly via the FOM website by choosing Research and then Research grants.

The following applies to both routes:

  • Select a grant from the list by clicking on it with the mouse. A window containing information about the grant chosen will open. Here you will find the call for submitting applications, which is sometimes called the guide or call for proposals. This text contains the guidelines you must follow when writing your proposal.
  • To enter the basic information in Flamingo, click on the hyperlink Click here for electronic applications via Flamingo in the text.
If you are logged into Flamingo, the screen for the basic information for your application for the grant concerned will now appear immediately. If you are not logged in then you will now be asked to do that and then you will immediately enter the application.
  • In the top right of the window you will see the steps required for the application. By clicking on the steps you will open the associated windows. Once a step has been completed then this will be marked with a green tick in the list. This shows you which steps have been completed and which still need to be done. You can log out at any time and continue with your application later. Depending on the type of grant chosen (this is indicated in bold) you may see the step Referees. The option to submit only appears once you have completed all the steps.
  • Complete the title of your application. You can use special symbols, superscript and subscript for this. The copy and paste function in the word processor does not always work here. Also enter the total amount (the amount that your are requesting from FOM) for your application in k€.
  • Click on the save button at the bottom of the window or click on the link Application information in the steps scheme. The Application information section has now been ticked off.

Complete the parts Your data, Co-applicants (s) and if applicable Referees in the same way.

Add the PDF file with the application form
In this step you add the proposal to the data you have entered. Do this in the section Appendices. Only PDF documents are permitted. Your PDF file may not be protected, as Flamingo will then refuse to accept the file. Further information about PDF files and programmes that can convert text files into PDF files can be found at: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Portable_Document_Format.

  • Convert the file with the application text into a PDF file.
  • Go to the Appendices section of the fact sheet and click on the button Add a file.
  • Complete the description and select the file you wish to add.
  • Click on the button Upload file.

Repeat this procedure for other files if needs be, for example, a submission letter, preprints or a list with referees that you want to object to.

Submit your application to FOM
The last step is submitting your application to FOM (up until that moment you are the only person with access to your application).

  • Make sure that all of the details entered are complete and correct and that you have appended all of the necessary documents. Once you have submitted the application you can no longer change any of these details.
  • Click on the button Submit to FOM.

You grant application will now be sent immediately to FOM. You will usually receive a confirmation of receipt immediately but for technical reasons this may take up to 3 hours. If you have not received a confirmation after this time from flamingo@fom.nl then contact the same e-mail address about this.
