NWO-nano research programme launched
The NWO-nano research programme has started by honouring 21 research proposals and allocating a total of € 10 million. Technology Foundation STW is the motor behind this programme; FOM supports a number of researchers. The programme encourages excellent fundamental and applied research in nanoscience and nanotechnology in the Netherlands, with the aim of strengthening and developing the Netherlands' international position in this field.
Researchers submitted a total of 109 applications to the programme. Fifty of these made it through the preliminary selection. Ultimately, 21 were awarded funding, 15 of which are supported by STW and 6 by the FOM Foundation.
Four research topics have been established for NWO-nano: 1. NanoMedicine, 2. NanoInsights, 3. NanoMaterials and Engineering, 4. Impact Analysis. Further information about these can be found in the programme description (in Dutch).
The research topics in the programme are based on the national Strategic Research Agenda (SRA) for Nanotechnology from 2008. There is close coordination with the newly funded NanoNextNL programme and with other initiatives, so that all research activities complement each other. The combined efforts of these programmes will help realise the SRA’s ambitions. STW, FOM, the NWO Divisions for Earth and Life Sciences (ALW) and Chemical Sciences (CW), and the Netherlands Organisation for Health Research and Development (ZonMw) are all cooperating in the NWO-nano programme.
An overview of all projects funded can be found in Appendix 1.
