Willem Vos appointed Fellow van de Optical Society (OSA)
The Optical Society (OSA) has appointed professor Willem Vos, FOM workgroup leader and professor at the University of Twente as 'Fellow of the Optical Society'. OSA members who have made an exceptional contribution to the progress of optics can be nominated as a fellow. Vos was awarded the fellowship for his groundbreaking theoretical and experimental contribution to understanding the emission and propagation of light in both ordered and chaotic media. In 2012, 66 OSA members became fellows.
The OSA was founded in 1916 as the Optical Society of America to enlarge and disseminate the knowledge of theoretical and applied optics; to advance the interests of investors, designers and users of a wide range of optical instruments, and to encourage collaboration. The organisation’s aims encompass science, technology and education. In 2012 the OSA had more than 17.000 individual members and 230 corporate members spread over more than 100 countries.
