FOM organises workshop 'CO2-neutral fuels' for scientists and industry
On Tuesday 27 November 2012 FOM invites scientists and representatives from industry to participate in the Workshop CO2-neutral fuels at Kasteel Woerden. The aim of the workshop is to define the topics and research framework of the new CO2-neutral fuels research programme within the NWO theme Sustainable Energy. The workshop will consist of presentations and interactive parallel sessions. It will form the basis for a call for proposals to be published early in 2013.
NWO theme Sustainable Energy and Top Sector Energy
The board of the NWO theme Sustainable Energy recently launched the development of a multidisciplinary national research programme in the field of clean fuel production and the activation of carbon dioxide. FOM and NWO Chemical Sciences are developing this programme in conjunction with the Top Sector Energy. The aim is to bring together academic researchers and industrial partners from the chemical, physical and technical disciplines in scientific research projects. Furthermore, a new research line in the field of solar fuels will be established at the Dutch Institute for Fundamental Energy Research (DIFFER). DIFFER will also coordinate the programme.
Workshop
During the workshop participants can take part in discussions on topics related to the research framework of the programme. These discussions will focus on four subthemes:
· Smart matrices for CO2 neutral production of solar fuels;
· Process and reactor development for the downstream synthesis of fuels or chemicals;
· Out of equilibrium processing of solar fuels;
· Photocatalytic approaches for CO2 neutral fuels: functional inorganic semiconductor materials.
During each parallel session individual researchers will present research ideas within these subthemes and then participants from industry will be given the opportunity to present their vision from an industrial perspective.
Call for proposals
After the workshop a writing committee under the direction of professor Richard van de Sanden (director DIFFER) will make a final proposal for the topics and research framework. This final version will form the basis for a call for proposals to be published early in 2013. The programme budget has been raised by NWO, FOM and the industrial partners Shell and Alliander. Contributions from other industrial or public partners are still welcome.
