Dick Stufkens Prize 2012 to Héctor Alvaro Galué
The Dick Stufkens Prize 2012 is awarded to former FOM PhD student Dr. Héctor Alvaro Galué. The prize is given for his PhD thesis 'Infrared Spectroscopy of Mass-Selected Aromatic and Diamandoid Molecular Ions: A Laboratory Quest for the Organic Inventory in Space', in which he describes an experimental study on the spectroscopy of various ionized hydrocarbons in the gas-phase together with density functional calculations. The study has been carried out against the background of the hypothesized occurrence of these types of large molecular compounds in interstellar clouds. Héctor performed his research in FOM Institute DIFFER at Nieuwegein.
The jury of the Dick Stufkens Prijs is impressed by the quality, the originality and the interdisciplinary character of Héctor Galué's PhD Thesis and expects that the work will have considerable impact in the astro-physical- and chemistry fields. Héctor's thesis work led to five publications in the international scientific literature.
The Dick Stufkens Prijs is an annual prize, awarded to the best thesis of a PhD student belonging to the Holland Research School of Molecular Chemistry (HRSMC). The prize consists of a certificate and an amount of 1.000 euro. Dr. R. Hage will present the prize to the winner on November 22 on behalf of the jury during the annual HRSMC symposium in Amsterdam. At the symposium Alvaro Galué will present a lecture on the work described in his thesis.
