1st Joint Call for Proposals ERA-Net SUSFOOD
On 15 February 2013, the first call for the submission of joint proposals for the ERA-net SUSFOOD was published. SUSFOOD is the acronym for 'SUStainable FOOD production and consumption', in which the focus lies on the food chain after the farm phase. The primary objective of the ERA-net SUSFOOD is to facilitate cooperation and synergy between research groups from the participating countries.
Budget
For the first call a budget of about 9,6 million euros is available. On behalf of the Netherlands, the Ministry of Economic Affairs, Agriculture and Innovation is contributing about 200,000 euros to this budget.
Types of proposals
In this first call, two types of joint proposals are distinguished:
I – 'research', in which scientific research groups are involved
II – 'research and innovation', in which at least one research group is from the private sector
Topics
In the first call, joint proposals can be submitted for the following topics:
I - Improving input, waste and side flow strategies to increase resource efficiency and provide added value in food products and food processing, manufacture, reducing input (energy, water) in the food chain
II - Innovation in food processing technologies and food products to support a sustainable food chain
III - Understanding consumer behaviour to encourage a (more) sustainable food choice
Number of participants
To help facilitate the cooperation and synergy between research groups from the participating countries it has been decided that research groups from at least three of the funding countries must be involved in the joint proposal.
Phased selection of proposals and deadline
The selection of the joint proposals will take place in two phases. In the first phase, a joint pre-proposal must be submitted no later than 3 May 2013 at 13.00 hours. After a selection procedure, the submitters of the joint pre- proposals selected will be invited to elaborate their pre-proposal into a full joint proposal. The full joint proposal must be submitted no later than 1 October 2013. An evaluation committee, the members of which are scientists without an interest in the programme, will then evaluate the proposals and issue a recommendation about which joint research proposals should be awarded funding. In mid-December an announcement will be made about which joint proposals have been awarded funding.
