Design by FOM researchers enters the market
VU University Amsterdam and the company Radiant Dyes Laser Accessories have signed an exclusive license agreement this week, for the production of a new laser system that was designed by FOM researchers. This agreement enables the German company to produce and market the laser system.
The system is a a narrow-band, tunable, pulsed titanium: sapphire laser. It combines a high resolution with energetic pulses. The system can be used in high-resolution spectroscopy. Former FOM promovendus dr. Sandro Hannemann, FOM workgroup leader prof.dr. Wim Ubachs and VU researcher dr. Eric-Jan van Deijn designed the system. They published their design back in 2007, in the scientific journal Review of Scientific Instruments.
When equipment advances lead to interest from other (research) institutes, it can be effective to license an experienced external party to do the manufacture and marketing. In this case, Radiant Dyes Laser Accessories approached the VU with a proposition. Some parties have already shown interest in the system.
