KNAW elects 15 new members
The Royal Netherlands Academy of Arts and Sciences (KNAW) has selected 15 new members. Eight of the new members will join the Sciences Division, including prof.dr.ir. Richard van de Sanden, prof.dr. Alfons van Blaaderen and prof.dr. Roland Kanaar.
Van de Sanden is director of the FOM institute DIFFER. His discipline focuses on the analysis of physicochemical processes that play a role in plasma deposition: the deposition and modification of thin films by plasmas. These technologies play a role, for example, in the production of solar cells, microbatteries and capacitors. Van Blaaderen is FOM workgroup leader at Utrecht University and leads the FOM programme 'Control over functional nanoparticle solids'. Van Blaaderen is a pioneer in research into self-organisation of particles as a result of which new structures are spontaneously formed. Kanaar is also a workgroup leader at FOM. His research at the Erasmus University Rotterdam focuses on the process of damage and repair of DNA and this includes studies into the genetic stability in relation to cancer and congenital disorders.
KNAW members are leading scientists from all disciplines. Each year the Academy members elect new members on the basis of scientific achievements.
The complete list of new members can be found on the KNAW website.
