ERC Advanced Grant for Kobus Kuipers
AMOLF group leader Prof.dr. Kobus Kuipers has been awarded an ERC Advanced Grant by the European Research Council (ERC). He will receive € 2,5 million for his proposal 'Control of the structure of light at the nanoscale (CONSTANS)'.
Kobus Kuipers will use his grant to explore the ultimate frontiers of optical control at the nanoscale by manipulating optical entities called optical singularities. While these entities already exist in light fields observed in daily life, their size puts regular nanophotonics to shame: they are infinitely small. By using photonic nanostructures to actively create, annihilate and/or move these singularities on ultrashort timescales, Kuipers will achieve unprecedented control over light: small changes will have large consequences. Kuipers will visualize the resulting light control with a new, innovative microscope.
Kuipers is FOM workgroup leader and chair of the advisory committee Nanophysics/-technology. He leads the research programme 'Plasmonics'.
ERC Advanced Grants
The ERC Advanced Grant is given to exceptional individual researchers to pursue cutting-edge ground-breaking projects that open new directions in their respective research fields or other domains. Every year a few thousand applications are received by the European Research Council, of which only a few hundred are honoured.
