Vision document chemistry and physics in 2025 presented
Today the Dijkgraaf Committee presented the vision document Chemistry & Physics, Fundamental For Our Future to its originators, professor Ben Feringa, chair of NWO Chemical Sciences Divisional Board and member of Regiegroep Chemie, and professor Eric Eliel, chair of Platform Universitaire Natuurkunde. The vision document describes the ambitions for physics and chemistry for the next ten years and is illustrated with the dreams of several young researchers.
The Dutch chemistry and physics communities have described their scientific ambitions for 2025 in a joint document. Seven research areas have been formulated based on discussions with stakeholders and academics. These areas tie in with the focus areas of the Sector Plan Physics and Chemistry. That plan was drawn up in 2008 under the leadership of the Breimer Committee and has been successfully realised.
FOM director Dr. Wim van Saarloos: "This vision beautifully conveys the point on the horizon in both the national and international context. It describes both the strength and ambitions of our natural sciences disciplines and the challenges we face in further strengthening our research and education and increasing how much society values chemistry and physics. For FOM this vision document is being published at just the right moment as it will provide input for our new strategic plan."
