Peter Hegemann keynote speaker DutchBiophysics 2014
DutchBiophysics 2014, the annual Dutch Meeting on Molecular and Cellular Biophysics will be held on Monday 29 and Tuesday 30 September. The goal of the meeting is to bring groups together that work on molecular and cellular biophysics and microscopy in the Netherlands. The meeting consists of plenary sessions, with invited presentations by (inter)national speakers, and oral and poster sessions for special topics.
The topics of the meeting include the biophysics of living cells and their membranes, the cytoskeleton, molecular motors, DNA- and RNA-protein interactions, theoretical biophysics, systems biophysics and networks, photosynthesis, and new developments in light and electron microscopy, imaging and spectroscopy, force probes, (bio)chemical synthesis, and bio-nanotechnology.
Keynote speaker
The keynote speaker at DutchBiophysics 2014 is Peter Hegemann, biophysicist at the Humboldt Universität in Berlin. He did pioneering work on channelrhodopsins, proteins that function as light-gated ion channels. This discovery enabled the rise of the relatively young field of optogenetics, which uses light to control neurons which have been genetically sensitised to light.
Registration is open
