Joost Weijs goes to top foreign institute thanks to Rubicon grant
Fifteen scientists who have recently gained their PhD can go and do research at top foreign institutes thanks to the Rubicon programme from the Netherlands Organisation for Scientific Research (NWO). Physicist Joost Weijs is one of these fifteen young scientists who get the possibility to gain international research experience as a springboard for a scientific career.
Hydrodynamic exploration of a maze - Physics
Dr J.H. (Joost) Weijs (m), University of Twente -> France, ENS de Lyon, Physics Laboratory
If particles are transported with a flow through a narrow maze-like network — for example red blood cells through veins — all of the particles in the system influence each other. The researcher will investigate the complex dynamics that arises as a result of this by means of simulations and theory.
The scientists awarded funding can use their Rubicon grant to do research for a maximum period of 24 months. The size of the grant depends on the destination chosen and the duration of the stay. Each year NWO can award about 40 to 50 young researchers funding within Rubicon (for a total amount of 7 million euros, spread over three rounds).
