July issue of FOM expres is out
This week the latest issue of the relations magazine FOM expres landed on the doormats of all current and former FOM employees, FOM workgroup leaders, FOM board and committee members, relations at universities and companies and other interested persons. In this 20-page-thick issue, pride of place is given to Wim van Saarloos. He resigned as FOM director to take up the new position of Programme Director NWO Transition with effect from 1 June. In this issue you can read a farewell interview with Van Saarloos as well as a report on his leaving reception.
Elsewhere in this issue, FOM chair Niek Lopes Cardozo writes about best practices. You will also find an article about the importance of the FOM Industrial Partnership Programme (IPP). An independent external evaluation committee has reviewed the programme and designated it as a success formula for top research with companies. Other interesting articles cover the relocation of FOM institute DIFFER to Eindhoven University of Technology, FOM research into proton therapy and the latest news about two ambitious scientific 'Big Science projects': LHC and ITER. In the section 'Science' Heino Falcke talks about star explosions and Kobus Kuipers about light whirlpools in a photonic crystal. Finally you can read a fantastic interview with FOM group leader Ana Achúcarro. You can find all of these articles and far more in the FOM expres of July.
