The movie shows the rotation of the speckle-like pattern behind a multimode fiber if a single illumination spot on the input is rotated. Obviously the pattern stays more or less invariant. This useful effect was recognized by the researchers as a new kind of memory effect. It can be exploited for non-invasive imaging or ultrafast high-resolution scanning through a multimode fiber. The results have been published on 28 July 2015 in the journal 'Optics Express’.

The research was funded by FOM, the University of Twente and Technology Foundation STW (through NWOnano and the STW Demonstrator programme).
