13 Vidi grants for innovative physicists
The Netherlands Organisation for Scientific Research (NWO) has awarded 87 innovative scientists a Vidi grant of 800.000 euros. Thirteen of these grants were awarded to physicists. With this grant NWO gives talented researchers the opportunity to develop their own line of research and to build up their own research group. The grants are awarded annually.
Vidi grants for physicists
The following physcists have received a Vidi grant for their research projects. A Vidi grant funds their research for a period of five years.

- Luca Giomi - From active matter to artificial cells: a mechanical insight into the fabric of life
- Simon Groeblacher - Optomechanische koppeling op een quantum chip
- Mehdi Habibi - Verkreukelde vellen hebben verrassend nuttige eigenschappen
- Jacqueline Hodge - Shedding New Light on Star Formation in the Early Universe
- Samaya Nissanke - Black Hole Births: measuring extreme astrophysics in the dynamic Universe
- Carmine Ortix - Shaping nanomaterials for future electronics
- Tristan du Pree - Higgs van Z tot A
- Yves Rezus - Eiwit, blijf in vorm!
- Richard Stevens - Computersimulaties verbeteren ontwerp van windparken
- Menno Veldhorst - Minder ruis: de sleutel tot een quantumcomputer van silicium

Innovational Research Incentives Scheme: Veni, Vidi, Vici
Vidi is aimed at excellent researchers who have gained several years of research experience after obtaining their PhDs. Vidi is part of the Innovational Research Incentives Scheme , which consists of the Veni, Vidi and Vici grants. The scheme allows research to freely choose their research subject. By allowing this freedom, NWO and OCW encourage curiosity-driven and innovative research. The selection process is based on the quality of the researcher, the innovative character of the research, the expected scientific impact and the opportunities for valorisation.
Funding
572 researchers submitted a research project to apply for funding. A total of 87 researchers across all disciplines have been awarded funding, which results in a granting percentage of 15 percent.
