New NWO: funding instruments
On 1 January 2017, NWO will adopt a new organisation structure. Current funding instruments will remain unchanged until a decision about any change is taken. NWO and FOM will announce this change at least six months in advance. 2017 will be a transition year and the new funding instruments will become effective no later than 1 January 2018.
An important objective of the new NWO is to improve the harmonisation between instruments from different domains, to make cross-domain programming easier, and to make it clearer for researchers which part of NWO they can best approach with their research ideas. From 1 January 2017 onwards changes in the funding instruments will gradually be implemented.
Consequences for applicants
For all NWO units the following rules apply to the changing of funding instruments: current instruments will essentially continue to operate unchanged until a decision about a change or discontinuation has been taken. Such a decision will be communicated at least six months before the change becomes effective. This will allow researchers to prepare for changes in the procedures in good time.
The ambition is to allow new funding instruments to become effective no later than 1 July 2018.
