Almost 500 biophysicists will come together in Veldhoven
Almost 500 researchers in the field of molecular and cellular biophysics and microscopy will meet up on 3 and 4 October during the conference 'DutchBiophysics 2016' in Veldhoven. For the plenary sessions national and international experts from the discipline have been invited, including keynote speaker Dr Jennifer Lippincott-Schwartz from the American National Institutes of Health (NIH).
The aim of the annual DutchBiophysics Meeting is to bring together all Dutch research groups that work on biophysics, microscopy and biomedical technology. A wide range of subjects are included in the programme, such as the biophysics of living cells and their membranes, the cytoskeleton, molecular motors, and DNA/RNA-protein interactions. Theoretical biophysics and systems biology will also be discussed as equally the latest developments in microscopy, spectroscopy, nanotechnology, and biomedical techniques and applications.
Jennifer Lippincott-Schwartz
Keynote speaker at DutchBiophysics 2016 is the American biologist Jennifer Lippincott-Schwartz. As head of the Department of Organelle Biology at NIH she uses live-imaging techniques to study the dynamic interactions of molecules in cells as well as their behaviour in space and time. For example, she uses photoactivation localisation microscopy (PALM) to make molecule distributions at the nanoscale visible. Lippincott-Schwartz is a member of the editorial boards of various scientific journals in her discipline and since 2008 she has been a member of the National Academy of Sciences.
Besides Lippincott-Schwartz seven other experts from the Netherlands and abroad will speak during a plenary session. There will also be twelve parallel sessions and more than two hundred posters will be presented.

Invitation for the press
Journalists are cordially invited to be present during (a part of) DutchBiophysics 2016. You can register by sending an email to Melissa Vianen of the FOM office no later than Thursday 29 September. If you would like to interview the keynote speaker or one of the plenary speakers then please can you state that as well. We will then try to plan an appointment with the speaker in a quiet place. The number of interview slots we have is limited. If you have any questions then please contact Melissa Vianen (Communication officer at FOM) by phoning +31 30 600 12 22.
