More than four million euros for the storage of solar energy in chemical compounds

Solar to Products grant
The Solar to Products grants are intended for research into solutions and innovations that contribute to the storage of solar energy in chemical compounds. This involves the direct or indirect use of solar energy to convert carbon dioxide and water into chemical compounds. With this approach carbon dioxide becomes a valuable raw material instead of a burden, which is a highly promising step in the development of a sustainable society. The ultimate aim of this programme is to contribute to the transition from a global economy driven mainly by fossil energy and materials to an economy based mainly on solar energy and closed material and fuel cycles (a circular economy).  

Research programme
The programme has been set up by NWO Chemical Sciences and FOM in collaboration with the Top Sectors Chemistry and Energy and the Top Consortium for Knowledge and Innovation BioBased Economy (TKI-BBE). The programme lies at the intersection of biology, chemistry and physics. Applicants had to put together a consortium made up of researchers and companies. On a project basis the companies must provide at least ten percent of the total budget in cash. For further information please see the NWO website.
